Malaya Bengel has been professionally illustrating children’s curriculum for over 5 years. Through this time she has drawn thousands of illustrations. These are digitally created with a color and black and white version to produce multiple printing options.

Throughout the course of Bengel’s 5 year illustrative career, the mission has remained strong. A passion for creating artwork kids can see themselves in is central to Bengel’s work. This includes body, racial, gender, sexual/romantic identity, class, and cultural diversity. Research into visual motifs among different countries and groups is a pillar to this mission. Bengel is determined to providing opportunities for self recognition in children’s media in a way she was not able to see for herself growing up.
