Recycled plastics, hot glue, gesso, acrylic paint on wood panel

Found and collected plastics are carefully cut and glued onto wood board in arrangements modeled after moving water. Once the plastics are properly composed, 3 layers of gesso prepare the work to be painted with acrylic paint. The paint both follows and opposes the way of the plastic’s movement to emphasize it while also creating a sense of depth and unpredictability. Just as the plastics’ uses are temporary, so too are the existence of these works. The plastics themselves, as well as the process of adhering the acrylics, are far from archival. As the plastic mimics the energy in nature, the artwork’s state of being does in the sense of continual birth, growth, and death.
